Small-size rotating detonation engine: scaling and minimum mass flow rate

نویسندگان

چکیده

Rotating detonation engines (RDEs) have been observed to exhibit several operating modes and instabilities under different operation conditions (reactant mixture, injection pressure, engine geometry, mass flow rate, etc.). We develop the simplest model possible describing of an RDE. This takes into account dependence properties on conditions, process, geometric constraints. Using this model, we predict lowest allowable reactant rates that allow RDE operate with a single wave propagating in annular combustion chamber. is compared experimental results running H $${}_2$$ /O C $${}_4$$ .

Airbreathing rotating detonation wave engine cycle analysis

Airbreathing rotating detonation wave engine cycle analysis" a r t i c l e i n f o a b s t r a c t A cycle analysis model for an airbreathing, rotating detonation wave engine (RDE) is presented. The engine consists of a steady inlet system with an isolator which delivers air into an annular combustor. A detonation wave continuously rotates around the combustor with side relief as the flow expan...

Analytical Models for the Thrust of a Rotating Detonation Engine

Twomodels are proposed for rotating detonation engine performance. The first model is motivated bymodels of pulse detonation engine performance which are based on the pressure-time history within the detonation tube. The present work extends those ideas to treat rotating detonation engines with a control volume analysis that considers the forces within the combustion chamber. The key scaling pa...

The minimum or natural rate of flow and droplet size ejected by Taylor cone–jets: physical symmetries and scaling laws

We aim to establish the scaling laws for both the minimum rate of flow attainable in the steady cone–jet mode of electrospray, and the size of the resulting droplets in that limit. Use is made of a small body of literature on Taylor cone–jets reporting precise measurements of the transported electric current and droplet size as a function of the liquid properties and flow rate. The projection o...

Microfluidic flow focusing: drop size and scaling in pressure versus flow-rate-driven pumping.

We experimentally study the production of micrometer-sized droplets using microfluidic technology and a flow-focusing geometry. Two distinct methods of flow control are compared: (i) control of the flow rates of the two phases and (ii) control of the inlet pressures of the two phases. In each type of experiment, the drop size l, velocity U and production frequency f are measured and compared as...

Finite Size Scaling and Low Mass Glueballs

We propose finite lattice effects as a probe of the glueball mass spectrum, and give an analysis of the recent SU(2) Monte Carlo data of Brower, Nauenberg and Schalk in terms of a gas of free glueballs. For Z 4 lattices with L = 4, 5, 6 fits are made to ~(m = 1/a~) which indicate a rather large effective number of degrees of freedom (i.e. statistical degeneracy where a spin J counts as 2J+ 1) f...
